This route explores part of the western edge of Dartmoor, from the pretty village of Horrabridge to the equally attractive hamlet of Sampford Spiney. It is a mixture of hedge-lined lanes, open common and farm fields. The route follows lanes and clear paths and tracks. The lane up to Sampford Spiney climbs steadily but very gently.
The Leaping Salmon dates back to the 18th century and has the typical low beams and leaded windows of the period. There is a patio at the back and a garden laid out to grass on a slope above the car park. The food ranges from bar snacks and traditional favourites to Chinese delicacies.
