This is a magnificent ridge walk in the heart of the Purbeck Hills. You start this walk from Ulwell, a village close to the sourthern slope of the down and follow an ancient pathway along the ridge. Nine Barrow Down is famous for its prehistoric burial mounds, the oldest of which could date back some 5,000 years. The return route follows a path along the foot of the down winding through woods and over open grassland.
