Milton Abbas must be the most photographed village in Dorset! Tucked firmly in a wooded valley in the downs you will find a gently curving street lined with near-identical thatched and whitewashed cottages set behind wide grassy verges. Beyond the cottages terraced gardens mount the steep hillsides. This walk explores this unique village and its beautiful surroundings following the Milton Abbas Heritage Trail, a ramble devised by local people. The route includes a visit to St Catherine's chapel, a simple 12th century building on a hill, half hidden among oak and beech woods.
This grade 1 walk in Footpaths for Fitness Dorset covers a distance of 4 miles. You will follow mostly flat woodland and meadow paths, with one gentle climb, and has an estimated calorie burn of 450.
